AltroFix™ 15 adhesive
Acrylic flooring adhesive
12 kg container
This single-part high-tack acrylic adhesive is a firm favourite for adhering vinyl flooring in dry areas.
You can use this adhesive on any Altro roll or sheet flooring and on our LVTs / modular flooring, in areas where you do not have any spillages.
Being single-part is a huge advantage. It means that you don’t have to mix two separate tubs, so it’s easy to use. What’s more, if you don’t use all the tub in one go, you can put the lid back on and use it later – with a good shelf life of up to two years, that’s a great way to get maximum use out of your adhesive. You can also use it as its own primer on porous or absorbent surfaces, so it saves buying additional materials if required.
To make installation even easier, we’ve coloured this adhesive green, so you can see exactly where you’ve spread it as you install your floor.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I use this product?
You can use it in dry areas. We do not recommend that you use it in areas where you might have spillages, such as in shower areas and kitchens, where we recommend using AltroFix 19 Plus.
What subfloors can it I use it on?
You can use this adhesive on dry, dustless subfloors such as sand / cement, granolithic, plywood, chipboard or hardboard.
For best results, please make sure site conditions and subfloors conform with BS 8203:2017 when you use this product, full details of which can be found online.
If you wish to use this product on asphalt or other non-absorbent surfaces such as surface damp-proof membranes, you can find more information on how to do so in our datasheet or call us to talk this through first.
What skill level do I need to use this product?
This product is suitable for use by professional installers or those with extensive experience of working with flooring adhesives. If you have any doubts about whether you have the right skill level to use it, please call us in advance to discuss.
What prep do I need?
Stir it before use. You need to prime porous or absorbent surfaces with a solution of one part AltroFix 15 to one part water.
How do I apply it when installing a sheet / roll?
Spread the adhesive onto the subfloor only with a 1.5 mm x 5 mm notched trowel. Allow the adhesive to become tacky and then lay the floor covering into the adhesive. Ensure the adhesive fully transfers to the flooring from the substrate. Make sure you only apply enough adhesive for you to overlay with your chosen flooring, ensuring a good transfer of adhesive. Take care that you don’t apply adhesive to too big an area for the working time of this product. After you have placed the flooring, roll with a 68 kg roller in two directions. Clean any adhesive residue with a damp cloth.
Alternatively, you can apply the adhesive to the subfloor only and spread evenly with a ‘V’ notched trowel with 1.5 mm x 5 mm centres. Immediately roll with a long handled paint roller, which has been pre-wetted with the adhesive, to smooth out the trowel serration marks and give a uniform appearance.
How do I apply it when installing Altro Ensemble LVTs / modular flooring?
Spread the adhesive onto the subfloor only with a 1.5 mm x 5 mm notched trowel. You MUST lay the modular flooring into the adhesive while the adhesive is still wet. It is vitally important to ensure that you achieve full adhesive transfer to the underside of the flooring. If the adhesive has ‘set’ or has become dry, you will have to reapply it. If you do not place the flooring into the adhesive while it’s still wet, your flooring will not properly adhere.
Only apply the amount of adhesive that you are able to overlay while it’s still wet. This will ensure a good transfer of adhesive. Roll with a 50 kg roller in both directions after you have placed the flooring. Clean any adhesive residue with a damp cloth and ensure all edges are firmly adhered to the subfloor and level in abutment before you leave the site.
What equipment do I need to apply this adhesive?
Depending on your installation method and the type of flooring, you will need
- 5 mm x 5 mm notched trowel
- ‘V’ notched trowel with 1.5 mm x 5 mm centres
- Long handled paint roller
- 50 kg roller
- 68 kg roller
You can buy the above from most flooring distributors or large DIY retailers.
What coverage will I get?
It comes in 12 kg containers. Depending on the application and subfloor porosity, one container gives a coverage of approximately 35-40 m².
To make sure your installation is successful, it is important that you use the correct amount of adhesive. This amount depends on factors such as temperature and subfloor porosity. If you have any queries about this, please don’t hesitate to call us.
How do I clean my equipment and the installation area?
When you’re not using the paint roller, wrap it in a polythene bag. Exclude air to prevent the adhesive setting on the roller. You should remove any surplus adhesive immediately using a damp cloth and clean warm water.
How do I store this adhesive?
You can store it at a minimum temperature of +5°C and a maximum temperature of +33°C. Do protect it from frost.
What is its shelf life?
Two years from date of manufacture when stored as recommended in unopened containers.
